Benefits of our Los Angeles Botox Treatments
The data over the past 25 years has shown that
BOTOX® is a quick and safe method to improve
facial wrinkling, and that there are no long-term
side effects associated with its use. Some of
the current benefits and uses associated with
the use of BOTOX include:
WRINKLES
BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA-approved and most
widely marketed for temporary improvement of
frown lines in men and women aged 18 to 65.
It's a natural, purified protein, which is used
in very low doses to relax the overactive muscles
that cause frown lines to form. The effects
of our Los Angeles Botox treatments last about
four months, after which lines gradually revert
to their pre-treatment appearance.
SWEATING
The use of BOTOX for facial wrinkles and excessive
sweating has been well studied. In 2004, BOTOX
was approved for use in curbing excessive sweating.
People with a condition called "primary
axillary hyperhidrosis" produce four or
five times the amount of underarm sweat as is
normal. Our Los Angeles Botox treatments work
by temporarily paralyzing the nerve that stimulates
sweat glands. BOTOX can also be used for excessive
sweating of the palms.
- One study resulted in 91% of patients who
received Botox underarm injections saw their
sweating cut in half in a month. Patients can
get follow-up injections for continued relief
every few months. The FDA cited one study that
found the average duration of response around
six months.
- Another study in 2005, which was a long-term
study of repeated treatment with Botox for severe
underarm sweating showed that Botox is safe
and effective for this use, resulting in long-lasting
improvements in patients' symptoms, daily functioning
and quality of life. More info can be found

HEADACHES
The connection between headaches and BOTOX began
emerging in 1992 when a physician in California
noted his patients who got Botox injections
said they were having fewer headaches. The most
popular current use is to help fade frown lines,
but a number of studies have found that Botox
treatments could have medical benefits as well.
In June 2002, CNN released an article titled
"New
Botox benefit? No wrinkles, no headaches".
The article provides information about 13 studies,
reviewed by the American Headache Society, that
indicate Botox can help rid a number of patients
of severe headaches, including reducing the
severity and frequency of migraines. Many of
our patients here at Cosmetique have noted similar
experiences from their Los Angeles Botox treatments,
mostly with migraine headaches and headaches
caused by glare. A few other results from the
studies:
- More than half of the 48 patients in a study
at a Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, said
their migraine occurrences dropped by 50 percent
or more.
- 61 percent said they had headaches less frequently
and almost 30 percent said the headaches were
less severe.
Until the FDA approves if for this specific
use, it is still considered an "off label
use".
